Yes, Virginia, unions used to be good
But that day has long since gone.
A few years ago, my mother was called to California to fill in at a hospital for nurses who had gone on strike. Much like the mob scenes of yesteryear, her bus was beaten by strikers, she was threatened, and heavy security was brought in. When one group of people is more concerned about three more cents an hour than they are about human life in need of critical care, something is very, very wrong. “Sorry, Susie. Grandpa died so his nurse could buy herself a Coach purse for Christmas.” Now that’s just classy.
One thing I am very proud of Oklahoma for is that it’s citizens voted to become a Right to Work state. No one can force a worker to hand over part of their paycheck in order to have a job here, and that sort of capitalist environmental condition may be just the thing that forces unions to get themselves healthy in our state or just get out. Thugs aren’t welcome here.
