Worthless Voting Day!

First, a little muzak to vote to.  Set your iPods or hum this to yourselves in the voting booth:

This is what happens when the Blessed One demands that all of his followers file official paperwork to vote absentee, wait in excruciatingly long lines and then take a day of paid vacation anyway — the polls are calm and easy to navigate for the rest of us.  Thank you very much for the favor, B.O.  I took my time alloted by law to vote on the job, and will continue to do so until they get around to declaring it a national holiday.  Remember, Boys: the first Tuesday in November, plus a half day after that for election night exhaustion hangovers.

I did vote, just after 12:00.  Figured there would be a lunch time line to wait in.  Nope.  Plenty of parking.  Those volunteers hustled me through, though — they’re waiting for the gates to get stormed it seems.  I’m not going to hold my breath.  But I do have this to say –

IF OBAMA SUPPORTERS VOTED EARLY, AND IT’S JUST US MCCAIN KIDS AT THE POLLS TODAY, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?  GO VOTE.  DO IT NOW.  TODAY IS OUR DAY.

I did have one sweet guy at the office ask me if my “It’s a Girl” pin meant I was pregnant.  I’m pretty sure he’s voting for McCain, but he does not seem to know what an elephant is.  I will make a note to myself to send him a zoo pass or something.

I know I sound like a broken record, but MAKE IT A NATIONAL HOLIDAY ALREADY!  Miss Wisabus and I feel mutually worthless at work anyway.  My office sent around a memo reiterating that we are allowed two hours to vote, plus drive time (which in a big city could mean one hour each way), and if you add in our lunch hour and breaks — a company could lose over 5 hours from an employee.  How is that worth the gas to get to work?  What about the environment?  What about the polar bears?  Sheesh.  Instead of passing $700 billion bailout packages at Henry Paulson’s every whim, you’d think they could be doing something more constructive in D.C.  Let’s do it for the kids.  Besides, the more of us that are off, the more volunteers there could be to help the election board run things smoothly.

And now I will leave you to continue celebrating this non-national holiday…with more election day muzak:

Happy voting, America!
