Now I understand.
When people from other states have questioned the intellectual capabilities of Oklahomans, I always used to chalk it up to arrogance or something trivially evil like that. But now I think I’m beginning understand.
I am a Texan who was forcibly transplanted here. I did not come of my own accord, but that being said, now having free will, I have not gone back. I still consider Texas home in many ways, and some days I still sort of feel like a guest or outsider here. Today is one of those days. (c-biz and probably all 3 of my readers are going to kill me for this post, but I have faith that their Christian love and charity will overcome any bitterness they might have.)
Allow me to explain for you in stories –
- Last night an OU student asked me if I got today off…? You see, in Norman, Oklahoma, the day before the OU/Texas game is a National Holiday.
- One of the sweetest girls I work with asked for tomorrow off, is naming her dogs Boomer & Sooner, and will slit your throat if you even appear to question OU — ok, peachy. But what you do not know is that neither she nor anyone in her family has ever attended OU.
- OU fans pay UT money to buy Longhorn logos to show their support for the Sooners. (Now that just makes you look ignorant all over.)
- This state has two Big XXII universities, but if the thought even crosses your mind to support the other one, here in the city at least, you can legally be screamed at, stomped on, and in some cases, torn apart by dogs if you support the other school.
Now is it me or is this state just a little bit looney? If anyone outside of Oklahoma, or forcibly transported here, ever questioned our mental prowess, I can now understand why.
May God bless all of the little loonies. And on behalf of all the non-loonies and Pokes out there, I’d just like to say: Burnt orange officially has my permission to burn the Sooners. HOOK ‘EM HORNS.

[...] could just tell him that you forgot to put your upside-down longhorn sticker on your car for the National Holiday [...]
