Preparing for Tonight

Oh, how I cannot wait for tonight’s RNC.  I cannot wait to hear Palin speak.

While I won’t be able to watch it live (it’s Wednesday–I have church, choir, and then Praise & Worship practice afterwards, since I’m on Team this week), I’m going to be setting the DVR to record it.  I might be able to see fifteen minutes of it live, but I’d prefer to just watch it from the beginning, so that I don’t miss a minute.

I did catch Fred Thompson’s speech last night.  While he did an outstanding job, he still didn’t convince me that McCain is the end-all be-all PotUS that the nation needs.  True, he’s about a billion times better than the alternative, but I’m still not going to be thrilled whenever he wins.

Yes, I do think McCain is a war hero, and needs to be lauded for it.  But that’s pretty much all we hear about whenever it comes to him.  Yes, it is very important that our PotUS knows a thing or two about the military.  It is of the utmost importance that our PotUS knows exactly what he’s sending our troops into–what could potentially happen to them whenever he sends them into wherever it is that he needs to send them.  But there’s more to being PotUS than having extensive military experience.

Enter Governor Sarah Palin.

I absolutely, positively adore this woman.  She’s six years older than I am, and is running the largest state in the Union.  True, she doesn’t have a lot of experience whenever it comes to foreign policy (irregardless of the fact that Alaska borders two countries), I don’t expect her to even need a lot of foreign policy experience.  I mean, she’s going to be the Vice President of the United States.  She will not be the PotUS.  At least, not this year.

And as Fred said, “she is the only nominee in the history of either party who knows how to properly field dress a moose … with the possible exception of Teddy Roosevelt.”

Oh, how I wish Fred had won the primaries.  He’s got such a way with words.  IMO, he’s better at them than even Obama.  What an awesome ticket it would have been if it was Thompson/Palin.  Talk about a juggernaut.

True, I don’t necessarily agree with everything she stands for.  But, her views align far closer to my own than anyone else’s on the playing field.  Plus, she’s got the same type of background I do.  She’s from a small town (so am I).  She’s got five children (while three of mine are foster children, I do too).  One of her children has a potentially severe issue (mine definitely does).  She married her high school sweetheart (well, I married a girl that I met in high school).  She speaks her mind, and is not afraid to tell people what she thinks (yep, me too).  Her husband calls himself a redneck (I too am a redneck–and am from a very long line of them).

Honestly, do you know who she reminds me of?  My wife.  That fact just hit me.  No wonder I like her so much!

To that end, I cannot wait to see and hear her speech tonight.  I’m sure it’s going to blow the competition out of the water.

I do like what AdrianG said in his comments in HotAir’s The Race To Define Sarah Palin column.  I agree with it completely.  She could turn water into wine tonight, but the liberal pundon’ts will sneer and complain about the vintage.

Here’s to McCain winning this election, springboarding Palin into the best possible PotUS nominee in 2012.  Hopefully with Bobby Jindal as her running mate.

Long live the Republican Party!

And may God bless us with it for the rest of time.

PS - Dave (Letterman).  I’m a huge fan, but you crossed the line last night when you were talking about the Palin family.  You might learn something from their daughter Bristol.  At least she’s marrying the father of her child, while you still haven’t married the mother of yours–and by your own admission, he’s school age now, while Bristol is still pregnant.  Think about that the next time you start degrading the Palin family for having internal struggles.  What was it that God has said?  Oh, yes.  Take the log out of your own eye before you take the splinter out of yours.
