Brought to You By the BBC

I share a fascination with Miss Wisabus for our British cousins.  It’s not so much that I think anyone with a British accent has a higher IQ or can sell me toothpaste better than anyone else.  Nor is it a dreamy romantic notion of what life is like over there.  I just have this large, inexplicable soft spot of compassion for them.  The umbilical cord may have been severed in 1776, but the belly button and the DNA to care about what happens to them cannot be removed.

You already know I love Britcoms, the Inklings, and the Tube.  The BBC-produced Britcoms air every Sunday and weekday night on PBS.  Some are pretty old, but their characters are hilarious, and they always brighten my day.  I get a kick out of watching the Britcom stars appear on the PBS fundraisers so surprised that we Yanks not only watch but love their shows.

But many other things from the BBC are not good…and the dark side of the force across the Pond has made headlines again.  Sad stuff, but worth a good read and some further thought.

My first thought was, “What do the parents of the actual ‘Children in Need’ have to say about this?”

Then, this comment at the Mail Online article stood out:

George Bush famously vowed to “go after the people who fund the terrorists”. So can we expect an air strike on Broadcasting House any time soon? After all, he planned to bomb Al-Jazeera offices in Qatar, on far less evidence of supporting terrorists than here…

Once I stopped laughing (those crazy Brits on board the nutroot’s double decker), I started wondering about the consequences and justice in this mess.  Don’t worry, Rob — I don’t mean bombs.  When parents are negligent in a child’s death, there are criminal charges.  However, here in the U.S. we still have yet to see justice with CAIR.  For the sake of discussion:  What accountability is there (or should there be) for organizations that through negligence contribute to crime and terrorism?  Should our favorite Scottish hero be called in?

I don’t really expect this tragic report to make any difference in how the British government views or handles the terrorism situation over there — they seem to think that evangelical Christians are as much of a threat as Muslims — but I do hope, as always, that it gives more British citizens pause for thought and the courage and conviction to speak up and step in wherever they can.

Meanwhile, we crazy (eeevil, imperial) evangelical Christian Yanks are over here praying for you and your safety.  Sleep tight, and God bless you.
