Mama always said, ‘Life is like a box of taxes…’
So this morning, I’m hanging out with my mom, who’s sorting her boxes of income tax paperwork just for 2008 alone. Without even looking up she says,
“If Obama is okay with the people he hires not doing their taxes, I’m sure he’ll be okay with me not doing mine. I’ll give him a call later to see.”
But wait, there’s more.
Later on she tells me that the British press have been asking Obama if he thinks the U.S. is to blame for the collapse of the world economy. (I sincerely hope they aren’t asking such idiotic questions — take off the gloves, boys.) So I begin to spout about Clinton and the Democrats and Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac, and mama starts shakin’ her head at me.
“Oh, that’s not where this started. It started when FDR instituted Social Security. People stopped taking care of themselves and their families and started relying on the government to take care of them.”
Clinton just gave the time bomb steroids, and Obama gave it crack. That’s all.
“Mama always knew how to say things in a way that I could understand them.” So you see, I come by my snarkiness and unquenchable thirst for justice honestly. I should have offered her a spot on our blogging team.
Just a few short years from retirement, my mom has lost half of her retirement savings because of the stock market. What’s really scary? That that doesn’t worry her half as much as the government taking over banks, auto makers, and controlling private companies. What was that phrase my grandparents used to use? Something about young folks going to hell in a handbasket…oh, yeah, you better believe it, baby. It’s us young ‘uns who are going because the government has given us a one-way ticket to pay for their gluttonus stimulus until we die.
I think I’m going to go watch Born Yesterday and cry myself to sleep now.

This might also be a good time to point out that discussions like this were never common at my house growing up. I was never “indoctrinated” to be a good conservative. I was only expected to be responsible for the messes I made and way I behaved. My fancy college edjukashun gave me the opportunity to toss all that responsibility away, therefore becoming a liberal, but I’m afraid that my skull was too thick with common sense to have it all knocked out in just four years.
Life experience has taught me that the brainwashing is entirely on the leftie side of the line. You’d have to be brainwashed to let someone take your liberties and your earned income and like it. I’m afraid those big boys (and girls) making all these liberal decisions will just never understand that once they ruin the system, it’s the end of their gravy train as well. Break the economy (the backs of the workers who toil for you), and it’s only a matter of time before the bubbles in the emperor’s bathtub dry up.
‘Nuff said.
