Stop The World, I Need To Get Off…
…for a minute, anyway. And only until I can get my head around all the chaos that’s going on. To quote Vinnie Barbarino, “I’m so confused.”
How many more confusing things can happen in a week? My head is almost spinning.
OK, here’s the setup–I’m really, really busy here at work. But, to take a break, I decided to hit a couple websites that I frequent, and, to my utter astonishment, I find things that I just don’t understand. So, naturally, I have to talk about it somewhat. Besides, it gives me a break from programming.
At HotAir, I saw that McCain had submitted an OpEd piece to the New York Times, but it was rejected–and he decided to cry about it. Granted, after reading B. Hussein Obama’s OpEd piece, I wondered what could McCain possibly say that would warrant their rejection? After Googling a bit, I found it at the Drudge Report.
You can read both, if you would like. McCain’s was full of poison (IMO), and Obama’s was full of… well, I can’t use the word that it’s full of.
Don’t get me wrong–I agreed with a lot of what McCain said. BUT, he didn’t take the time to talk about what needs to happen. He never really talks about what he wants to see happen. All he does is take the time to lower the boom on Obama. Personally, if *I* had been the one writing his OpEd piece, I would most likely have said the same things that he did (as he’s correct in most respects), but I would also have taken the time to expand on it with my own personal opinions as to what we need to do next.
For example, he says:
Senator Obama is also misleading on the Iraqi military’s readiness. The Iraqi Army will be equipped and trained by the middle of next year, but this does not, as Senator Obama suggests, mean that they will then be ready to secure their country without a good deal of help. The Iraqi Air Force, for one, still lags behind, and no modern army can operate without air cover. The Iraqis are also still learning how to conduct planning, logistics, command and control, communications, and other complicated functions needed to support frontline troops.
That’s all well and good, but what is McCain’s idea for how to handle this situation? Are we going to provide the air cover? Are we going to provide the jets? Are we going to provide the plans to build the jets? What’s the plan here, McCain? I can’t get behind you and support you without knowing what the plan is. In fact, I refuse to do so. I mean, while I seriously doubt you’ll just up and pull out all our troops like what Obama wants to do over the next sixteen months, because you haven’t given us at least a plan for this, I can’t support it. I won’t follow you blindly, nor will I choose to follow anyone who isn’t up-front and honest with me. I have faith in God alone. He has yet to steer us wrong. And He’s always been up-front and honest with us.
Obama’s OpEd piece, though, I find even worse. Sure, he occasionally gives rightful kudos to our troops who are fighting for the world’s peace-of-mind (I mean, terrorism doesn’t just affect us here in the US), but that’s about it. He stupidly (IMO) gives a timetable for how quickly he would pull us out of Iraq. While Dennis Miller put it far more succinctly than I can (I’d post the YouTube video for y’all to watch, but it has been removed “due to terms of use violation”), he basically said that, if we tell our enemies when we’re going to leave, it just tells them when the perfect time to attack will be. In this case? They’ll surge back into Iraq after seventeen months. And there will be nothing we can do about it, because, according to what Obama said…
Unlike Senator McCain, I would make it absolutely clear that we seek no presence in Iraq similar to our permanent bases in South Korea, and would redeploy our troops out of Iraq and focus on the broader security challenges that we face.
So, Iraq would basically be left with no way to defend itself. And the very small presence we had there? Probably wiped off the map, as they’re going to be hung out to dry. But, at least he’s telling us his plan. Not that I support it in the slightest.
And as far as Afghanistan is concerned? Yes, it needs to be taken care of. But that will require a lot of planning. Have you seen the topographical map of the place? You think Vietnam was deadly because of the jungles, etc? IMO, it’s nothing compared to what Afghanistan’s land is. But, if he takes office, that’s where he’ll send our troops. And knowing him, the plan will be all talk, and have no basis in reality. Like lambs to the slaughter, I tell you. “Leading” our troops like lambs to the slaughter.
I swear. Sometimes politicians amaze me.
In other “news,” I saw something that I truly hope isn’t true. After following the links around the Internet, I came to a Drudge Report that led me here. I know, I know. It’s the National Enquirer. It’s not something that I would EVER buy, let alone read, as I refuse to support paparazzi trash. But be that as it may, I truly hope that John Edwards isn’t really having an affair. While trash like what they publish is typically untrue or has absolutely zero basis in reality, they have been known–once or twice–to actually be correct about a story. I hope this isn’t one of them, for his wife and family’s sake. No, I’m no Edwards supporter (he’s far, faaaar too pretty, and, according to what he said on Tyra Banks’ show, he’s oppressed as a white man!), but I would hope that he would stick to his marriage vows–that he would be by his wife in sickness and in health. Remember, she’s dealing with cancer right now…
Oh, you don’t believe me about the “oppressed white man” bit? Check this out:
If it is true… If he does, in fact, have a mistress, and that makes this story somewhat true, I’m betting he’s just effectively removed himself from the #1 slot on Obama’s short list. Not that that would be a bad thing, but still…
But back to McCain and his OpEd piece (sorry, I got distracted there for a minute)…
Appearing at the Times website is this article concerning them not printing his OpEd piece. Two things about this whole stupid fiasco:
1) They wanted him to re-write it, and they even offered suggestions. Uh-huh. SURE. I wonder how close Glenn Beck’s version is to what they really wanted.
2) I am totally confused on what their true motives are in not publishing the article? Is it because he’s attacking the King of the World Democratic nominee’s piece? Couldn’t be. Not really, anyway. I mean, they’ve only published his other half-dozen OpEd pieces he’s submitted in the past! PLUS, they used to love him! He was their man! He could be counted on to “end” the Bush style of government, right?
So what’s changed, NYT? Is it because he’s become the Republican candidate, so, through guilt by association, he’s now “too conservative?” Surely NOT! No, I’m betting it’s because he’s just not big on the Obamessiah, whom the media is fervently choosing to throw themselves down and worship at his hooves.
Next subject: B. Hussein’s trip around the world.
On second thought, I can’t go there right now. Seeing him at the Wailing Wall just about made me puke. And him speaking at a Nazi monument not only made seeing him at the Wailing Wall both far more sickening and–at the same time–laughable, it just goes to show how much he truly has no concept of world history. (h/t HotAir and YouTube–I’d embed the video of him at the Wall, but, as you’ll see when you visit the site, embedding has been disabled by request.)
Does anyone else find it completely wrong for him to leave Israel–the land of the Jews–and go directly to Germany–the land of the Jew-hating Nazis? True, Germans may not feel that way anymore (well, at least some don’t), but that doesn’t mean anything. He went to the Wailing Wall, and now he’s speaking at a monument to the Third Reich. Or is he just trying to show how terrible he feels about the plight of the Jews for being slaughtered as well as how he feels about the Nazis losing World War II? I don’t care what kind of gaffes you say (well, I do, but that’s beside the point right now), but what B Hussein is doing with this is beyond disgusting.
UGH!!!!!
People say they want a black president. Apparently strictly because he’s black. Fine. Give me General Colin Powell, and I’ll vote for him. At least he won’t make the egregious mistakes as the self-proclaimed Commander-In-Chief is making. Don’t believe me? Read the transcript from his speech in Jordan. Third page, about the middle, it says:
So there are a range of factors that I have to take into account as a commander in chief or a potential commander in chief that I wouldn’t expect General Petraeus or anybody who’s just on the ground to have to take into account.
By him saying “or a potential commander in chief” he’s saying that he just misspoke. At least, that’s the way I read it. If he’d have just left it as “I have to take into account as a commander in chief,” I could have swallowed that. He would have just been saying “If I were POTUS,” but no. He corrects himself. Which forces me to think “OK, well, he just said he’s the next President.” And we all know that he hasn’t wrapped it up yet. It’s akin to when Hillary said “we are the President” all those years ago, while her husband was still in office. I know, it’s nit-picky, but I can be whenever I see something that just makes my hackles rise. There’s not a single reason he needs to be over there campaigning. And, no, I’m not big on McCain doing it, either. They both need to be here campaigning. Not wasting my money on private jets, fancy meals, and meeting with people who have absolutely zero say in who our next president is.
Oh how I wish the two finalists would have been Hillary and Fred Thompson…
OK, I’m out of here. I have to get back to work.
