1) Visit your local gun range, and spend some time finding a weapon that is comfortable and firing.
2) Take the Concealed Carry Class.
3) Apply for a Concealed Carry License with the OSBI.
4) Take a self-defense class. (Or purchase Miss Congeniality on DVD.)
5) Don’t live in fear.
Sure, increased security at Penn Square Mall might help, but you are the best line of your own defense. Shop with friends, pay attention, don’t carry too much, and use security escorts. Be aware that parking garages aren’t the only target. Consider yourself a designated Neighborhood Watch Security Deputy — report suspicious behavior to mall security. Video cameras can’t save you, but education and courage might.
Don’t let what happened to Crossroads Mall happen to our other malls. Let’s not hand over our freedom to shop unmolested to cowardly criminals. You have every right to be safe and defend yourself.
